Education is the key to improvement and evoluation of a professional field such as golf course architecture.

All of the team members of Albanese & Lutzke have extensive educations, and they all understand the value of learning.

To this end, Paul Albanese teaches in many capacities.  He is the Director Director of Golf Course Architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland.  He also teaches a 10 day seminar for Cornell University's Adult Education Program.  In addition, he is a frequent guest lecturer at Michigan State University, and has spoken at many seminars and conferences.

Graduates of the ECA program receive an MSc in Golf Course Architecture from both the Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh.

The program consists of 12 modules that focus on the design of golf courses from many perspectives and includes the integration of many facets of design.  The students start by learning basic principles of design and spatial orientation and progress through the detail design process, including green, tee, bunker and hazard design.  The final design project is a two month independent golf course design evaluated by external examiners.

Students enrolled in the program, in addition to learning specific golf course architecture skills, are introduced to other facets of golf design, such as sculpture, golf course management and construction.  Being located in Scotland, the birthplace of golf, the students benefit from a spring study tour that enables them to study and analyze many of the most famous precedents of golf course architecture.
