Paul Albanese is the Director of Golf Course Architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland.  Albanese & Lutzke maintain an office in Edinburgh, and Paul spends his time traveling the world designing and building golf courses for clients, and teaching aspiring golf architects in the birthplace of the game.

The Golf Course Architecture program at the ECA is one of only two programs in the world that specifically focuses on golf course architecture.  Graduates of this program receive an MSc in Golf Course Architecture from both the Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh.

STUDY ST. ANDREWS AND OTHER CLASSIC LINKS VENUES

The program consists of 12 modules that focus on the design of golf courses from many perspectives and includes the integration of many facets of design.  The students start by learning basic principles of design and spatial orientation and progress through the detail design process, including green, tee, bunker and hazard design.  The final design project is a two month independent golf course design evaluated by external examiners.

Students enrolled in the program, in addition to learning specific golf course architecture skills, are introduced to other facets of golf design, such as sculpture, golf course management and construction.  Being located in Scotland, the birthplace of golf, the students benefit from a spring study tour that enables them to study and analyze many of the most famous precedents of golf course architecture.
